The pages of the Tibetan Book of the Dead, the Bardo Thodol, include a finely detailed description of what happens to a person from the onset of symptoms of death: the loss of consciousness, the awakening of a spiritual body, and, if liberation is not possible, the selection of a new womb to begin the next life. With each stage, the author presents instructions for recognizing the clear light and reaching nirvana. The Bardo Thodol is not meant to be read only in the final moments of agony instead, its teachings are intended to form part of a lifelong learning process. "
